Hello,
Tonight I am going to introduce to you someone I had the pleasure of meeting when I lived in Florida. As a matter of fact I first met her and her husband Brian Quanshau in April of 2004 when they both flew into Orlando and they signed a contract for a beautiful new home I sold to them. Some of you might already know her. She is Alisa Tarpley-Quanshau. For years I had lost touch with them and about a year ago we reconnected via email. To my surprise Brian, her husband, told me about Alisa’s art and workshop. Being very artistically inclined I looked into that side of Alisa I didn’t know and soon enough I found myself introduced to her art and her passion for it.
This blog is about Alisa, her art and the reflection of her vision on each creation.
Alisa was born and raised in New Rochelle, NY. She currently resides in Florida. She started her creations when she was about 36 years old. She decided to pursue her love of painting in 2005 when she moved to her new home in Orlando. At that point in time her heart guided her to make out of art a full time profession. Alisa believes her painting flourishes from her father’s side but both sides of her family are artistically inclined, ranging from musicians to artists of all kinds. In her eyes her best work’s creation started in 2007.
Alisa clai
ms her connection with abstract art by expressing her vision on wood. This element, which she finds more interesting & flexible, allows her to come up with different designs & shapes that reveal her inspiration. Since she has found this way of expression Alisa has not stopped doing what she loves to do: ART.
Here is the last part of my interview with Alisa Tarpley:
How long does it take for each piece to be completed?
Alisa: Each piece varies because they are all different and some may be more intricate to draw and cut than others but I would say anywhere between 8 to 48 hours total from start to finish.’
What inspires you?
Alisa: I’m inspired by music, it allows me to relax and be a bit more creative. Sometimes I see shapes & come up with designs just doodling around. Sometimes my custom orders spark other ideas and creations, which I love too, but I always draw to music. I listen to everything, Alternative, R&B, Rock, rap & Classical.
What is the emotion that goes through you when creating one of these pieces?
Alisa: I am always happy & excited to see the end result of anything new that I am creating. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I love it and sometimes…. not so much. But I’m always improving.
At what point in time do you name the piece?
Alisa: Sometimes names come before, during and after. Sometimes I draw a complete blank. Sometimes the names are really silly but since it’s the first thing that comes to mind – I feel like I have to stick with it.
Where are you actually exposing your art?
Alisa: I sell my artwork mainly on-line. I sell through EBay, Etsy and Artfire. I also sell through 2 popular on-line wall decor stores and I have a minimal amount of items in a local art shop.
What is your vision from here to 5 years?
Alisa: In 5 years I really want to be working out of a larger studio, and have a showroom and hopefully way before that time, my own website as well. I should be working on that very soon.
How many pieces have you created?
Alisa: I’ve created in total, probably over 3k pieces since 2005.
I used to make only one of a kind sculptures…. one copy – that’s it…. but since the decline in the economy in 2008, I had to stop keeping inventory and started to only make items as they sell with a 2-4 week time frame for delivery & this is what I am doing currently.
How did you learn this technique?
Alisa: I am what they call an “outsider artist”. I am self-taught with no formal training. My art is acrylic paint on mdf wood. Sometimes I incorporate mirror & or metal in my sculptures and I finish them all with several layers of high gloss for shine & protection
What advise do you give young artists that want to follow your steps?
Alisa: Just follow your art and don’t give up on your dreams & goals in life.
What countries have you sold to?
Alisa: I mainly sell to the USA right now, but I have sold to: Canada, Austria, Australia, UK, France, Cyprus, Greece, Netherlands, New Zeeland, Norway & Switzerland.
Alisa’s creates her art in her home studio. You can see the majority of her artwork in EBay by clicking HERE. If you don’t usually use EBay then you can check some of her limited work by going to Etsy or Artfire.
Alisa Tarpley is a very talented artist that deserves mentioning. I bow to her ability and drive to make her dream come through. Her art is very impressive. Please take a minute to browse through her links and leave me a comment so I know you were here. I’d love to know what you think.
Bravo Alisa, may the future continue to bring the inspiration you show through your wonderful pieces of art.
If anybody is interested in Alisa’s Art she would like to offer “free shipping” or a discount, to anyone that mentions my site by using the “ask a question” option in the listing prior to purchasing; this way she will apply free shipping or a discount before the invoice is paid.
Well, that’s it for now!
